owl class

The Owl Class is our Pre-K class of energetic 4 and 5-year old children.  These children are preparing for Kindergarten.  They are becoming more independent, self-confident, and creative.  They will be learning all the elements necessary to be prepared for Kindergarten.

Children will develop their concentration skills and be able to work with activities for longer periods of time.  They will grow in confidence and will be eager to try new things.  Their communications skills will improve, and they will learn to communicate their emotions and frustrations in a more productive way.  Children will increase their vocabulary skills not only through songs, fingerplays, rhymes, and stories, but they will also learn through practiced communication activities.  These activities will include answering simple questions easily and logically following the reading of a story, practicing and engaging in conversations and communications with their classmates and teachers, and by sharing their own personal stories with the class.

Children learn best with hands on experiences, exploring and discovering through active play.  Our teachers will provide concrete to abstract learning to build their skills, meaning they will learn first with the concrete or the physical object in the real world, such as a ball, then the abstract that can not be touched like a picture of a ball.  They will continue to build skills; cognitively, socially, spiritually, physically, and emotionally.  Children will continue learning appropriate social behaviors, building friendships, self-esteem, and positive self-worth.

Movement and exploration are still so important at this age.  Children need to move their bodies, use their senses, and groom their problem-solving skills to learn and make sense of their world.  The children will grow and have fun learning in the areas of language, math, shapes, sizes, spatial relationships, science, nature, music, cooking, and art.
